ResOS Alternative

The ResOS
Alternative
Built for the UK.

We are not going to pretend ResOS is the villain. It charges no commission, it sends bookings straight to your venue and your guest list stays yours. We do the same. The argument for BookingNinja is breadth, UK pricing and support, and the fact that we build your venue for you rather than handing you a blank system.

Why Switch

We Agree on the Ethos. The Difference Is Scope.

A lot of ResOS will look familiar if you move across, because the two products start from the same place. What changes is how much of your venue you can run from one login, and who you speak to when something breaks at 7pm on a Friday.

No Commission, Either Way

ResOS states plainly that it never charges per booking, per cover or any commission. Neither do we. If you are shopping on that alone, both of us pass, so the rest of this page is about everything else.

Reservations Are the Starting Point

Guest types with per-guest pricing, ticketed events, party bookings, memberships, gift cards and order at table are part of the same system as your covers. ResOS is table reservations, deposits and takeaway.

Gift Cards and Memberships Included

Sell branded gift cards and run recurring member plans from the account that takes your bookings. ResOS has no gift-card feature, so that is normally a second subscription and a second inbox.

A UK Team That Does the Build

We are in the UK, we price in pounds and we set your venue up for you in about a day. ResOS is run from Copenhagen, sells self-serve, and localises its prices by region, so we could not confirm a fixed GBP figure.

BookingNinja vs ResOS

Floor plan, table combinations, deposits, no-show fees and waitlist are parity, so we have not padded this out with rows where we simply match.

BookingNinja
ResOS
Copenhagen based, self-serve

ResOS is a real flat-fee, no-commission system and we have no interest in implying otherwise. Its prices are localised by region and we could not confirm a UK or GBP figure, so we do not quote them. Comparison based on publicly available information and accurate to the best of our knowledge; check ResOS for the latest.

Beyond Reservations

One Login,
Not Four.

ResOS does reservations, floor plan, deposits and takeaway, and does them properly. The trouble starts when your venue sells something that is not a table for two. That is usually the point where a second tool appears on the card statement.

Guest types and per-guest pricing
Charge adults and children differently, add extras per guest, and take pre-orders against each seat.
Ticketed events and parties
Sell tickets by guest type for set menus, supper clubs and Christmas, alongside the normal book.
Memberships
Recurring plans with member perks and booking discounts, billed automatically.
Gift cards
Sell and redeem branded cards. ResOS has no gift-card feature, so this is one you would otherwise buy elsewhere.

The Booker's View

The Bit Your Guest
Actually Sees.

The most repeated ResOS criticism on Trustpilot is the booker-facing side, with one reviewer calling the design terrible from a booker's perspective. That is opinion, not fact, but it points at the half of the product we spend most of our time on.

Built for the phone first
Most of your bookings arrive on a phone, so that is the screen the flow is designed around.

When ResOS Is the Better Call

There are venues we would rather send to ResOS than sign up and disappoint. Here are the honest ones.

  • You would rather set it up yourself tonight. ResOS signs up self-serve with a free forever tier, and its own setup is described as taking under an hour. It also has iOS and Android apps and a Zapier library covering 2,000-plus tools. If you enjoy wiring things together, that suits you better than a done-for-you build.
  • Your restaurant is in the Nordics or wider Europe. ResOS is Copenhagen based, that is where its presence is strongest, and its pricing follows your region. A local supplier is worth something.
  • You want a safety net before committing. Paid ResOS plans carry a 90-day money-back guarantee and you can pause or cancel whenever you like, which is a cheap way to find out if it fits.

The two products come from the same place: no commission, straight to the venue, your guest list is yours. If self-serve suits you and Europe is your market, ResOS is a fair choice and we would not argue. Pick us if you want the events, memberships and gift cards in the same account, a booking page your guests get through, and a UK team that builds it for you.

FAQ

ResOS Alternative Questions, Answered

Is BookingNinja a good ResOS alternative for UK restaurants?
It is if you want more than table reservations. Both systems charge no per-cover fee and both leave the guest data with your venue, so that is not the deciding factor. BookingNinja adds guest types with per-guest pricing, ticketed events, memberships, gift cards and order at table to the same account, prices and supports it from the UK, and builds your venue for you instead of leaving you to configure it.
Does BookingNinja charge commission or per-cover fees?
No, and neither does ResOS. You pay a flat monthly price. Payments carry the standard Stripe card processing charge plus a small platform fee of roughly 1 percent, which varies by plan. Nothing is charged for the diner who books.
Can I move from ResOS to BookingNinja?
Yes. Export your guest list from ResOS and bring your regulars with you. Your BookingNinja page can be taking bookings on day one, and we do the build ourselves, usually inside a working day, including the floor plan, sessions and deposit rules.
Does BookingNinja do gift cards and memberships?
Yes, both, and they sit alongside your bookings rather than in a separate app. Branded gift cards can be sold and redeemed in the same account, and membership plans bill on a recurring basis with member perks and booking discounts. ResOS has no gift-card feature.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. Free Forever costs nothing a month, includes every feature, and covers up to 50 bookings a month that take no payment. Past that a booking has to include a payment, and the guest pays a small booking fee at checkout of 2% or 50p, whichever works out higher.
Is BookingNinja UK-based?
Yes. We are a UK company, still founder-led, and the people who answer your email are the people who build the product. ResOS sells globally from Copenhagen on a self-serve model, and because its prices are localised by region we could not confirm a fixed UK price.
